3 Bathroom Design Ideas that Make a Big Impact

Considering a bathroom remodel but not sure where to begin? Regardless of a bathroom makeover or gut-job, it’s important to start by honing in on an impactful design that’ll delight you and dazzle guests. When Pinning and Liking images during research, the key is selecting elements that not only transform the space but also represent your personal style. If your style doesn’t shine through, you won’t fall in love with the finished look, leaving you wondering why you started the project in the first place.

To get your creativity flowing, we compiled our top three bathroom remodeling ideas that’ll turn your powder room, guest bath and master bathroom into a space you’ll relish. Even better, you can mix and match these design elements or pick just one, depending on your style and budget.

Floor-to-Ceiling Tile

When most people plan to re-tile a bathroom, they instinctively think of the flooring and backsplash. For extra drama, consider canvasing the entire vanity wall.

The wall tile can match the flooring or be a secondary tile for extra effect. Just be careful to avoid a dizzying combo. Instead, opt for complementary styles and colors. For example, apply small marble octagons on the floor and oversized icy-blue subway tiles on the wall; or select a hand-painted concrete Moroccan tile that carries from the floor up to the ceiling. For a nature-inspired spa look, pair a stone tile on the wall with a wood-mimicking tile floor.

Dramatic Lighting

Lighting itself can transform a space, perfectly fashioning your uplifting oasis or sultry sanctum. But, not all lighting is created equal when creating a wow-factor. We suggest nixing the typical vanity light and flush mount. Alternatively, go with wall-mounted sconces and/or a strategically placed pendant or chandelier.

Sconces or pendants – say in a black, bronze or gold – pop when placed on either side of your vanity mirror(s). For something more high-design, place a single statement pendant(s) above the vanity or hang one above the vanity’s left or right edge. Finally, a glamorous chandelier can accentuate a master bath soaking tub or built-in makeup vanity.

Each of these lighting options pairs effortlessly with natural lighting and recessed lighting to create more luminance as needed or preferred.

Bold Wallpaper

Much like floor-to-ceiling tile, a bold wallpaper can command attention and awe. Making a huge comeback, wallpaper traditionally covers every wall, a technique that’s once again highly alluring and fashion-forward. However, another incredibly chic approach is to wallpaper a single accent wall (added bonus: it also saves time and cost). For example, cover the vanity wall in a small bathroom but consider using a small sink (i.e. a console or pedestal sink), so the wallpaper showcases from every angle. An accent wall also allows you to play with more prints – from graphic to floral – which could overwhelm a bath remodel, depending on the overall design.

To ensure top-quality installation of these design ideas, we always recommend consulting a licensed bathroom remodeling contractor. He or she (who may also double as a bathroom designer) can guide you through the costs and process that’ll bring your vision to life.
