Looking at an exterior house remodel before and after is such a fantastic way to explore design possibilities. For this particular abode, South Land Remodeling was approached by an existing client to renovate their new family home in Sherman Oaks, CA. It was an extensive job, including a complete front and backyard remodel, a custom inground pool and hot tub, composite deck, patio landscaping, custom storage and more.

This 2,800-square-foot, four-bedroom, three-bathroom house was neglected and underutilized by its previous homeowner. By teaming up with its new, design-savvy owners (a family of three), we completely recreated this home. Before, the exterior was a muted Mediterranean-style. Today, it’s a charming, warm craftsman-style home with dazzling curb appeal and backyard features.

The Front Yard Remodel

Our client’s original vision for the exterior was a Cape Cod-style with a red and blue motif. However, the new siding was coated in a sunny yellow primer, and the homeowners fell in love with it. So, we nixed the plan to paint the house blue and opted for the cheerful yellow hue. Then we painted the new roof and door a deep red to create a lovely, vibrant contrast. Furthering that contrast, we hung black house numbers and exterior lights above the front door and across the front of the house.

The home’s structure also changed to accommodate a second-floor master bedroom expansion and adjoined terrace. With guests in mind, we gave the terrace a secondary entrance separate from the master bedroom so anyone can enjoy the firepit, seating and views. South Land Remodeling also built two storage units that match the home’s exterior. We replaced, repurposed and added windows and doors, including French doors leading to a new small front patio. All the doors, windows and trim were painted white for a timeless, clean look.

The cherry on top is an antique stained-glass window surrounded by new scalloped siding. This adds even more character and charm that was completely absent before the exterior house remodel.

The new gardening and landscaping features were selected to accent the beautiful new façade. In this 1,200-square-foot front yard, we replaced everything except the mature palm trees, driveway and basketball court. The landscaping design is simply composed as not to distract from the home’s architectural design and detail. For the low-maintenance greenery, we added boxwood bushes, flowerbeds and high-quality artificial grass. The curb appeal is made complete with a wooden fence and gate flanked by red brick columns and a matching walkway in a classic herringbone pattern.

The Backyard Remodel, Custom Pool & Patio

For the backyard remodel, the client really wanted an inground pool. Custom pools are popular in sunny Los Angeles and Sherman Oaks, we understand the appeal! As a professional landscaper and pool builder, we got to work on the backyard landscape design and pool design. We made use of the 2,000 square feet of space by adding features that make the backyard a slice of paradise. The spacious 1,000-square-foot Trex composite deck surrounds the 20-foot by 10-foot heated inground swimming pool and spa.

We built the deck around the property’s towering orange tree to preserve its shade, character and fruit production. Located on two sides of the pool, we created built-in bench seating that also has hidden storage built into the base. On top of the benches is a second tier that houses flowerbeds for more greenery and citrus trees. Finally, in a private corner of the yard, we added an outdoor shower that makes it easy to rinse off after a day spent splashing in the pool.

In the end, this home has character, charm and curb appeal it never did before. We at South Land Remodeling like to think we considered every single detail and possibility when it came to this home’s transformation and outdoor space. This exterior remodel and backyard remodel cost was approximately $200,000, and all well-spent to maximize not only the home’s functionality but also its overall value. This is truly a home this family will love for years to come.

Before-and-after photos of a remodel show transformation in a visual sense, but behind the scenes, payments play their own transformative role. Large projects require trust, staged payments, and often financing options. Homeowners need confidence that their money is handled securely, while businesses need assurance they’ll be paid on time. This balance of trust is what makes remodeling successful. Services like Solidgate provide the infrastructure to make that financial relationship smooth and reliable. Global payment solutions ensure that even deeply personal projects like home renovations fit into the broader system of secure commerce.

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and recommendations—it’s encouraging to find such engaged voices here. Whether it’s about design choices that transform a home or the way rivalries shape a playoff chase, I appreciate the different perspectives. As someone who originally asked about inspirations, it’s wonderful to hear feedback and know that others also see value in connecting ideas across places like the Philippines and beyond. This kind of exchange makes the forum feel truly worthwhile.

I really enjoy reading how everyone here looks at both design and sports because it shows how passion connects us in different ways. In the Philippines, people often mix style and community pride, whether it’s in a home remodel or cheering for a team during playoffs. What I like most is how small details, like colors or a sudden momentum shift in a game, can completely change the atmosphere. It’s nice to see both areas celebrated with so much energy on this forum.

The intensity of this stage of the season really shows how unpredictable sports can be. Every game feels like it carries extra weight, and one small mistake or brilliant play can completely change the storyline. What’s even more engaging is seeing how younger players step up under pressure, proving themselves against experienced rivals. It’s these moments that make the playoff chase so memorable for fans

The playoff race is heating up fast, and it’s always exciting to watch how rivalries and young stars shape the narrative of a season. Beyond the scores, what fascinates me is how momentum shifts from one team to another in crucial games, keeping fans on the edge of their seats.
