In many ways, home trends begin with color. By establishing which hues will rule the roost, other design elements typically follow suit. The interior design trends for 2021 are no exception. With a focus on the color of the year from all the biggest paint brands, here are the paint colors that will kick off the new year in style.

Pro Tip: When considering which paint colors to add to a room, look beyond the walls. A huge paint trend right now is to paint cabinets, furniture, ceilings, trim and molding.

Color Trends 2021

Pantone announced the always anticipated Pantone Color of the Year 2021, which aims to blend warmth and optimism. They’ve married Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow (PANTONE 17-5104 and PANTONE 13-0647, respectively) to create a kind of yin-and-yang effect. The bold, bright and cheery yellow perfectly contrasts this subdued, grounded and timeless gray. Both capture elements of the outdoors to naturally and spiritedly revitalize an interior.

Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year

Paint trends can’t be discussed without one of the biggest paint brands having their say. The Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year 2021 is (drumroll, please) Urbane Bronze. The goal of creating this nature-inspired neutral was to help us live more comfortably in our living spaces. Urbane Bronze (SW 7048) creates a bold yet relaxing ambiance as well as a stunning backdrop for cream hues, light wood furniture and pops of color.

Continuing with the trend of creating comfort and balance at home, the Benjamin Moore Color of the Year is Aegean Teal (2136-40). This particular shade is as pleasant as it is energizing. It’s a refreshing departure from traditional blues, greens and neutrals for those looking to add personality and vitality to their home. Behr Color Trends 2021 Palette

This major paint maker doesn’t focus on a single color, rather an entire collection. The Behr Color Trends 2021 Palette is one of beauty. It takes us on a tour of light neutrals, a spectrum of blues and greens, and richly saturated earth tones. Some of our favorites include Seaside Villa (S190-1), Cellini Gold (HDC-CL-18) and Jojoba (N390-3).
