Our recent South Bay kitchen renovation created soothing beach vibes and tons of storage space.
At South Land Remodeling, we take immense pride in our work and love showing it off. This recent Manhattan Beach, CA, kitchen remodel is no exception. We transformed a drab, inefficient use of square footage into a sunlit oasis with cabinets galore and a nod to the nearby surf.
This home belongs to family who sought a beautiful, open concept in the kitchen and dining room, so they could gather. Another key concern was creating storage options that make life easier and more organized. With those objectives in mind, our kitchen designer and general contractor went to work fashioning a custom kitchen that would exceed the family’s expectations of design and craftsmanship.
This project was a complete kitchen remodel, including the attached dining area and backyard.

When we designed this 500-square-foot interior space, we wanted it to be airy, bright and statement-making (without being overly bold). We tore down walls to create an open concept and installed new windows, including a beautiful bay window above the sink and three skylights, all to bathe the room in California's natural light.
The kitchen’s serene tones perfectly meld together, from the custom gray cabinetry (by A to Z Kitchen Cabinets) to the room’s centerpiece: a 9-foot by 4-foot waterfall island cast in a unique blue-and-gray quartzite. That natural stone carries over to the countertops and above the stove, fashioning a lovely contrast to a surrounding backsplash of delightfully unconventional 3x8-inch white subway tiles. The tiles carry from the countertop to the ceiling for a high-end, sleek look.
Because storage was a big concern for the family, we created solutions that tripled the family’s kitchen-cabinet storage. To do so, we custom-designed the space for functionality and beauty, which included custom glass cabinet doors and three large cabinets under the six-seat island. We also added clever storage features, including a paper towel holder and wine-fridge-wine-rack-combo.
The stainless-steel fixtures and appliances were selected to make cooking and everyday life easier for the family. The luxury appliances are from Jenn-Air and Thermador, and include a double oven, six-burner gas range, pot filler faucet and oversized sink.
Finally, the lightness of the gleaming white oak flooring keeps the space light and bright, while also conveniently hiding everyday dust and debris (contrary to dark floors).

The white-cabinetry + warm-oak-island combo is one of the most repeatedly successful coastal-modern moves in South Bay kitchens — Southland nails it every time. The waterfall countertop detail in the Manhattan Beach build is especially clean. I help with social for a small Hermosa Beach interior designer and we've started using an Nano Banana2 AI image and editing tool to clean up before/after kitchen photography (coastal interiors are murder on phone cameras — the salt-and-bright window light blows out highlights every time, and AI cleanup brings the actual cabinet finish back to true).
